Il Cimiterio Militare Tedesco di La Cambe fu costituito inizialmente come cimitero militare americano. All'inizio i caduti americani furono sepolti su un lato e quelli tedeschi sull'altro. Quando le salme dei caduti americani furono esumate etrasferite negli Stati Uniti, le salme tedesche furono anch'esse inumate e sepolte nuovamente. Il cimitero divenne quindi un cimitero militare tedesco a partire dal 1948. Ospita oltre 21.000 caduti tedeschi in terra di Francia. In questo luogo sono sepolti l'Hauptmann Michael Wittmann, asso dei carristi tedeschi, ed il suo equipaggi.
Until 1947 La Cambe was an American Cemetery. The remains were exhumed and shipped to the US. It has been German since 1948, and contains over 21.00 graves. With his melanchony rigour, it is a graveyard for soldiers not all of whom had chosen either the cause or the fight. They too have found rest in the soil of France. In this place are also buried Hauptmann Michael Wittman, german panze ace, and his crew.
