D-Day - German Batteries, Longues-Sur-mer  (Normandia)

Longues-sur-Mer è l‘unica batteria di difesa della costa classificata comr « Monumento storico » situata nel cuore delle spiagge dello Sbarco. Opera maggiore del Vallo Atlantico, la batteria comprende un posto
di direzione del tiro e quattro casematte che proteggono ognuna un pezzo d’artiglieria da 150 mm ancora sul posto. Situata al centro del settore d’assalto alleato, sulla cima di una falesia che sovrasta la Manica, ebbe un ruolo strategico durante lo Sbarco delle forze alleate il 6 giugno 1944. Oggi è l’unica batteria ancora equipaggiata di cannoni d’epoca. Situata tra Arromanches-Les_bains  e Omaha Beach offre una vista panoramica sulle spiagge dello Sbarco, con una visione d'insieme del Mulberry di Arromanches

Longues-sur-Mer is the only coastal defence battery on theLanding Beaches to be classed as a « Historical Monument. » A major construction in the Atlantic Wall, this battery had an artillery command post and four bunkers, each with a 150mm gun permanently in place. Located in the middle of the assault sector and on top of a cliff overlooking the Channel, it played a strategic part in the Allied Landings of 6th June 1944. Today, it is the only battery still to retain its original guns. Located between Arromanches and Omaha Beach, it affords a panoramic view over the Landing Beaches and the Mulberry of Arromanches.
